Caribbean ABCs is a fun and educational children's book, based on an alphabetical journey by eight-year-old Brett who travels throughout the Caribbean and teaches about the different Caribbean countries: their history, their culture, their economy, their food and way of life. After seven years in draft form, I self-published my first children's book - Caribbean ABCs in November 2021. The book is suitable for kids aged 2 to 12 years old.

'Reading to the 246' is a platform specifically targeting Bajan readers and Brett and I were pleased to be featured and interviewed on Sunday 27 March 2022 at 6pm. We read from Caribbean ABCs and spoke about how we want to share the Caribbean experience across the region and the world. It was a fun and interactive experience and we also learned some more about Barbados. Thank you "Reading to the 246". Find them on FB and IG.
We just took part in our first pop-up marketplace and it was so amazing! Hosted by Carib Biz Network, a fairly new small business development platform, the event was dubbed “Island Jingle” on Sunday 12th December, 2021 in Manhattan. There, small businesses and new to the scene creatives from the Caribbean region and based in the US came to showcase and sell their products. I was proud to be surrounded by small businesses representing Haiti, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Jamaica. We were there with copies of our Caribbean ABCs book and the response was so amazing. Better than I could have hoped for. It felt great to chat with people about our book and to make some meaningful connections. I will be writing a blog about lessons learned from my pop-up experience. It was my first time.
On Saturday 12 December, 2020 at 2PM (EST), I along with my son made a fun presentation on our book, Caribbean ABCs detailing information about the book and how it encompasses the theme of the competition "The Power of Representation." The four other competitors also made compelling presentations. At the end, a fellow Dominican author captured the first prize. I am super proud of her as she is only 7 years old and a Kalinago!!
Brett and I came in second! Woo-hoo! We are excited about the next stage which is mentoring and editing from Reycraft Publishers and hopefully we go to print soon after!!

We made it as one of the finalists for the Ducreay Foundation's Caribbean Writers Competition (Kiddy Books). Yay!
